Distress Ink & Paper Piecing Bridal Card

By Cards

Hi all,

Welcome back! I hope everyone is enjoying the last few days of summer.

For today’s card I wanted to try using an alphabet stamp set to create my sentiment. I’m one that almost always chooses to use a sentiment that’s ready to go. I don’t mess around with my stamps by splitting them apart, I like things already assembled and ready to go for me. So as you may guess, this card in particular took quite some time to conceptualize. However, once I had an idea of what I wanted, it came together pretty quickly. I knew I wanted to use the scooter element in a whimsical way, and the rest of the card just fell into place immediately after I had the element figured out.

Here’s the how-to on the card:

Here’s a look at the finished card.

Friendship Card with Watercolor Background

By Cards

Hi All,

I’m back with another card featuring a large background stamp. This time I wanted to work with watercolors and draw focus to the smaller elements of the background. The most important element in making a card like this is to use a quality piece of watercolor paper. Since there’s so much water added to the card, you really need a material that will hold up and not break apart.

Here’s a video on how the card was made.

I actually made this card a few times. When using a thick black border around the edges of the element, the card looks more like an actual book. I loved how this design can truly be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Happy Birthday – Balloons

By Cards

Hi all,

For today’s card I wanted to play with some different techniques and I think the results are quite charming. The balloons were stamped on watercolor paper and colored in with watercolor pencils. I love working with pencils over a paint palette because it makes me feel like I have much better control on my canvas. I used a water brush to do my actual blending. The lacy designs on top and bottom were created using Japanese style washi tape.

Online Card Class – Day 2

Hi all,

Here we are on day 2 and challenge number 2 for Clean & Simple cards. Todays “homework” is to create a 1 layer card. Believe it or not, this was a huge challenge for me, as I always tend to gravitate toward using physical layers to create a card. For today’s card I wanted to not only make a card, but use an added technique that was shown by the amazing Jennifer McGuire using rainbow colors and watercolor inks. To get the affect I wanted I used InkTense pencils.

Here’s my take on the assignment.
