Doily Banner Notecards

By Room Decor

Hi all,

It’s no secret that in the craft world everyday items become the foundation to create something new. Today, I’m taking fancy lace like papers we use to dress our desserts to create a set of notecards. Now, I didn’t actually use the paper version for a doily, but rather a set of images from a stamp set. A while back I purchased a couple of gorgeous stamp sets from My Minds Eye that included a couple of doily images that I thought would make the perfect foundation for a set of notecards. When I purchased these sets, I immediately knew how I wanted to purpose those specific stamps.

I used my favorite blank onyx ink and stamped the doily images as the foundation for the cards. Next, I layered on dimensional die-cuts of another set of doilies. Yes, doilys on top of doilys. Too busy? Absolutely not. By keeping the base black and neutral, the die-cuts are grounded to something – otherwise they’d just look like they are ‘floating’ in the middle of the page.

Next, I used a woodgrain banner stamp and grabbed a few of my favorite spring ink colors from Hero Arts. The key was to not add too much color. Keep it simple.

To finish off the cards I added some details (stripes, borders, and a few extra woodgrain lines) using a black gel pen.

I love that these cards are so simple but have multiple layered images to create a beautiful visual impact.

DIY Room Decor – Fabric Heart Garland (Part 2)

By Room Decor

CloseUpShot

Hello all,

I’m back with a continuation to my post about creating heart garlands. I’ve been experimenting with other fabric designs and am absolutely amazed with how each one turned out. I especially love the bright colors hanging on the jute twine. There’s something so “anthropologie” about it (yes, I love most decor from that store)!

Another way to use these dies is to cut felt instead of fabric. I think felt would be just as pretty but would give a completely different vibe.

Take a look at these combos and tell me which one is your favorite. I’d love to hear from you.

Stripes with florals – swoon!

Love the corals and teals mixed with pea green and rustic orange!

Polka dots and twine anyone?

I love that craft supplies can be so versatile and don’t always have to be used with just paper or be confined to envelopes and books. Try searching through your supplies and double-purposing an item ~ let your creative mind free!

Have a great day friends.

DIY Room Decor – Fabric Heart Garland

By Room Decor

HeartBanner_Blog
Hi all,
I’m here today to share a very quick and easy project for some extra pizzaz to a room. Nowadays, many craft stores and home decor stores carry small fabric squares. Typically they can be found in a bundle of coordinating colors and designs. I happened to have a set and thought it’d put it to use but keep in mind that really any type of fabric works, and if you don’t have fabric – try felt!

Here’s a quick video on how I created this beauty.

You can create this same look at home using a stencil or template. For your convenience, I’ve created a FREE download for you to use. Simply click the button below.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope I’ve inspired you to create something DIY and handmade for your space!

Washi Tape Craftroom Storage Idea

By Craftroom Storage, Room Decor

Hi Friends!

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I recently changed up my entire office space. I gave it a fresh coat of paint, some new fabrics and drapes & changed out containers to better suite the space. Throughout the process, I’ve been trying to find unique pieces to create storage. I’m a huge fan of thrift store finds and was on the lookout for some pieces for my space or future projects!

I found two items on 2 different occasions.

First, I found an old ornate looking shelf. \\click here to read that post\\

A few months later, I found a box that looked alot like a letter type box or a configuration box. I’m not entirely sure what its intended purpose was.

I designed a Christmas configuration box a while ago and thought maybe this piece could function in a similar way. \\Click here to view the configuration box I made for Christmas.\\

As I was reorganizing this week, I figured it was time to get this piece painted. I grabbed a can of my all time favorite spray paint by American Accents and gave the piece a couple coats of spray paint. Immediately I thought of a FANTASTIC purpose for the piece. “I wonder if this would fit a roll of tape,” I thought.

Guess what? It totally does! These tapes used to take up 3 jars in my space. How crazy is that?!

Oh, my crafty heart!

I decided to pair the piece up with my other shelf.

I can’t believe how fantastic these two pieces turned out! Seriously friends, if you haven’t checked out your local thrift store for some awesome storage finds…you should! Keep in mind that a fresh coat of paint can change an entire piece!

~Happy hunting!
